The Maine Society of Anesthesiologists (MeSA) represents approximately 120 physicians practicing in the state of Maine. An anesthesiologist is a physician who has completed a four-year residency training program specializing in anesthesiology after graduating from medical school. As such, recent entrants into our society have eight years of postgraduate education before they are eligible for entrance into the certification process given by the American Board of Anesthesiology.
The principal goal of the MeSA is to promote the practice of Anesthesiology within the state of Maine. Our mission is to communicate the scope and value of the anesthesiologist to the public, to monitor and promote public policy to enhance patient care, and to serve as an advocate for anesthesiologists and their patients. Furthermore, we will encourage specialization in the field of anesthesiology and hope to increase the availability of anesthesiologists within the state. The Maine Society of Anesthesiologists is a recognized component of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the national specialty society.
